Calling Health Professionals With an Interest in Non Epileptic Seizures

By on 6 July 2018 in News

Following on from the success of the ‘In Our Words’ book which features the stories of people diagnosed with non epileptic seizures, we have been asked to take part in a project for a follow up book. The new book will feature the personal experiences of health professionals from all disciplines around the world who are involved in the diagnosis, treatment and support of people diagnosed.

The researchers for this project say: “Taking care of patients with psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (NES) can produce a mixture of emotions among health care professionals. The condition is still characterised by many uncertainties and controversies, as well as by many different names – such as non-epileptic attack disorder, pseudo-seizures, psychogenic non-epileptic seizures, non-epileptic seizures and dissociative seizures. While scientific publications offer useful insights, they do not generally focus on the personal experiences – favourable or not – of health care professionals with patients with NES. However, accounts of this range of experiences could provide an extremely useful, additional resource for health care professionals who are keen to improve their own understanding and management of patients with NES. ”
